Bringing South Texas wildlife and habitats into the classroom

Wildlife in Focus

The mission of Wildlife in Focus (WiF) is to preserve and protect the native wildlife and their habitats in South Texas. As a 501c3 non-profit organization, we strive to create an atmosphere of cooperation among businesses, private landowners, and wildlife photographers where all participants benefit while promoting the conservation and protection of wildlife and habitat.

The Photography

Wildlife in Focus conducts a biannual photography contest across a 21 county region of South Texas known as the Coastal Bend. A book of images is produced from those winning images. Thus far, 8 books have been produced.

For the contest, we match a photographer with a landowner in the region. They become a team. There is a specific start date and end date for the contest and all images submitted must have been taken on that property. A renowned group of professional nature photographers then judges those images. The images represent the core of our mission and are the stars of our show. Without wildlife and wildscapes, there would be nothing to conserve, indeed, nothing to care for or about which to teach.
